Why convert PES to PNG?
A PES file is a Computer-Aided Manufacturing program that tells a sewing machine where to push a needle; a PNG stores a grid of colored pixels. The two formats share no structure. PES files embed a small low-resolution thumbnail that can be extracted as an image, but extracting it is not a format conversion - it is just reading a preview bitmap that was already there.

.pesfile is called digitizing - a largely manual process in embroidery software; automatic photo-to-PES tools exist but produce poor stitch quality.
