How to convert DAE to OBJ
- Add your .DAE file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .OBJ in a few seconds.
- Download your new .OBJ file.
What to expect
- Animation and skeletal rigs do not survive - OBJ is a static mesh format with no support for keyframes or bones; use FBX or glTF if animation must be preserved.
- Materials are simplified: basic diffuse color and UV maps transfer via the accompanying
.mtlfile, but complex PBR or COLLADA-specific shading effects are dropped. - Texture images are external - keep the
.obj,.mtl, and all texture files in the same folder, or the model will render grey.
Frequently asked questions
Is Blender free for this?
Yes - Blender is open-source, costs nothing, and has DAE import and OBJ export built in with no add-ons required.
Will my textures carry over?
UV coordinates transfer and the
.mtl file references texture filenames, but the image files themselves are external - keep them alongside the converted .obj.Why does my converted model look grey?
The
.mtl file or texture images are missing from the folder; place the .obj, .mtl, and all texture images in the same directory and reopen the file. What happens to animation in the DAE?
OBJ cannot store animation; only the mesh geometry is exported. Convert to FBX or glTF/GLB instead if you need animation to survive.
