Vad är filformatet IEPD?
En .iepd-fil är ett Information Exchange Package Documentation-paket. Den samlar allt som behövs för att definiera ett standardiserat datautbyte: XML-scheman, exempelmeddelanden, en katalog och läsbar dokumentation. Fysiskt sett är det ett ZIP-arkiv, så det bär samma PK-header som vilken .zip-fil som helst och extraheras på samma sätt.
Formatet kommer från NIEM, National Information Exchange Model, som används av amerikanska myndigheter för datadelning inom rättsväsende, hälsa och krishantering. NATO antog senare samma paket och registrerade medietypen application/vnd.nato.openxmlformats-package.iepd+zip. Inuti varje IEPD finns en obligatorisk katalogfil, iepd-catalog.xml (namngiven mpd-catalog.xml i äldre Model Package Description-versioner), som indexerar och beskriver varje artefakt så att en mottagande part kan implementera utbytet utan externa referenser.
Tillsammans med katalogen hittar du delmängds- och tilläggsscheman skrivna som .xsd-dokument, exempel på .xml-instansfiler, affärsregler och en ändringslogg. Katalogen är det som förvandlar ett vanligt arkiv till en giltig IEPD.

RISK: LOWAn .iepd is a ZIP archive of schemas, XML and documentation, so it carries no executable code and is safe to open. The usual ZIP caution applies: extract to a folder and be wary of unexpected packages from untrusted senders, since any ZIP can hide oversized or deceptively named entries.
