¿Qué es el formato de archivo IEPD?
Un archivo .iepd es un paquete de Documentación de Paquetes de Intercambio de Información. Agrupa todo lo necesario para definir un intercambio de datos estandarizado: esquemas XML, mensajes de muestra, un catálogo y documentación legible por humanos. Físicamente es un archivo ZIP, por lo que lleva la misma cabecera PK que cualquier archivo .zip y se extrae de la misma manera.
El formato proviene de NIEM, el Modelo Nacional de Intercambio de Información utilizado en las agencias gubernamentales de los Estados Unidos para el intercambio de datos de justicia, salud y gestión de emergencias. La NATO adoptó más tarde el mismo paquete y registró el tipo de medio application/vnd.nato.openxmlformats-package.iepd+zip. Dentro de cada IEPD es obligatorio un archivo de catálogo, iepd-catalog.xml (llamado mpd-catalog.xml en versiones anteriores de Model Package Description), que indexa y describe cada artefacto para que la parte receptora pueda implementar el intercambio sin referencias externas.
Junto al catálogo se encuentran esquemas de subconjuntos y extensiones escritos como documentos .xsd, archivos de instancia .xml de muestra, reglas de negocio y un registro de cambios. El catálogo es lo que convierte un archivo simple en un IEPD válido.
