Un fichier .b6z est une archive compressée créée par B6Zip, un utilitaire de compression pour macOS. Comme d'autres archives, il regroupe un ou plusieurs fichiers et dossiers dans un seul conteneur afin qu'ils occupent moins d'espace et soient plus faciles à partager. Par défaut, le format compresse les données avec LZMA2, et il peut également utiliser LZMA, Deflate, BZip2 ou PPMD. Les archives peuvent être verrouillées avec un chiffrement AES-256 et un mot de passe.
En interne, B6Z emprunte la structure du .zip. Chaque fichier stocké commence par un en-tête local dont la signature est composée des octets 42 36 03 04 (« B6 »), et un index appelé répertoire central se trouve à la fin du fichier, commençant par 42 36 01 02. L'outil B6Zip pouvait également lire les archives .zip, .tar et .rar. L'application n'est plus mise à jour, c'est pourquoi des fichiers .b6z isolés apparaissent parfois sans le logiciel qui les a créés.
Sécurité et sûreté
RISQUE : MEDIUMA .b6z file is a data archive, not a program, so it does not run on its own. The real risk is in what it contains: extracted executables or scripts can carry malware, so scan unpacked files before running them. Encrypted .b6z archives require the correct password to open. Because B6Zip is discontinued, prefer a well-maintained extractor like 7-Zip and verify the source of any archive you did not create.
