Eine .b6z-Datei ist ein komprimiertes Archiv, das von B6Zip erstellt wurde, einem Komprimierungsprogramm für macOS. Wie andere Archive bündelt es eine oder mehrere Dateien und Ordner in einem einzigen Container, sodass sie weniger Platz beanspruchen und einfacher zu teilen sind. Jede gespeicherte Datei beginnt mit einem lokalen Header, dessen Signatur die Bytes 42 36 03 04 („B6“) sind, und ein Index namens „Central Directory“ befindet sich am Ende der Datei, beginnend mit 42 36 01 02. Das B6Zip-Tool konnte auch .zip-, .tar- und .rar-Archive lesen. Die App wird nicht mehr gepflegt, weshalb gelegentlich .b6z-Dateien ohne die zugehörige Software auftauchen.

RISIKO: MEDIUMA .b6z file is a data archive, not a program, so it does not run on its own. The real risk is in what it contains: extracted executables or scripts can carry malware, so scan unpacked files before running them. Encrypted .b6z archives require the correct password to open. Because B6Zip is discontinued, prefer a well-maintained extractor like 7-Zip and verify the source of any archive you did not create.
