Why convert VWX to DWG?
VWX is Vectorworks' proprietary binary format, readable only by Vectorworks itself. .dwg is the dominant CAD exchange format supported by AutoCAD, BricsCAD, DraftSight, ZWCAD, and dozens of other applications. Architects and engineers in mixed-tool environments regularly need a DWG handoff from Vectorworks drawings so consultants can work without a Vectorworks licence.
How to convert VWX to DWG
VectorWorks APP
Open the .vwx file, go to File > Export > Export DWG/DXF, select DWG and the target version (AutoCAD 2018 for current software, 2013 or 2010 for older recipients), choose layers to include, then click OK and save.

- Only Vectorworks reads .vwx; any website claiming to convert VWX to DWG online cannot parse the native format.
- 2D linework, layers, dimensions, text, and hatches export cleanly; parametric objects such as walls, space objects, and lighting devices are converted to dumb geometry with no parametric data.
- BIM record data does not carry over to DWG; if BIM interoperability is the goal, export to IFC instead.
