How to convert RAW to ICO
- Add your .RAW file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .ICO in a few seconds.
- Download your new .ICO file.
What to expect
- The raw is developed and then heavily downscaled to icon sizes (up to 256x256), discarding most detail.
- An ICO can bundle several small sizes of the same image.
- This is suited to icons and favicons, not to viewing a photo at full quality.
Frequently asked questions
How much detail survives RAW to ICO?
Very little. ICO holds icon-sized images up to 256x256 pixels, so a full-resolution raw is downscaled dramatically and almost all of its detail is discarded.
Why convert RAW to ICO?
To make a Windows icon or a browser favicon from a photo. A single ICO can hold the image at several small sizes so Windows picks the sharpest one for each context.
Where is an ICO used?
ICO is used for program, file, and folder icons on Windows and for website favicons. IrfanView or XnView can view one, and GIMP can edit it.
What is lost going from RAW to ICO?
Nearly all resolution: the raw is reduced to tiny icon dimensions, and its editing latitude is fixed when the image is developed. Fine photographic detail cannot survive at icon size.
