Why convert KWZ to WAV?
Flipnote Studio 3D bundles the BGM and up to four sound effects inside the .kwz in a proprietary ADPCM codec that ordinary players can't read. Extracting to .wav gives you clean, uncompressed audio you can edit, remix, or archive on its own.
How to convert KWZ to WAV
kwz-parser (Python) OPEN-SOURCE
Run kwz-parser and select an audio track (id 0 for BGM, 1-4 for the sound effects) to export it as a .wav. The project is deprecated but still handles audio extraction.
flipnote.js library OPEN-SOURCE
In flipnote.js, call the parser's audio methods (getAudioMasterPcm / getAudioTrackPcm) to pull decoded PCM samples from a .kwz, then save them as a .wav.

- KWZ audio is a custom 2-bit/4-bit ADPCM; decoding is a best-guess for DSi Library conversions, so some tracks can sound noisy or clipped.
- The BGM and each sound effect are separate tracks - exporting the master mixes them, while per-track export keeps them apart.
- WAV is uncompressed, so the files are larger than the original tiny KWZ audio; convert to MP3/OGG afterward if size matters.
