How to convert JPF to JPG

  1. Add your .JPF file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
  2. Convert it to .JPG in a few seconds.
  3. Download your new .JPG file.

What to expect

  • JPF supports lossless compression; JPG does not - every conversion introduces some quality loss, so use JPG quality 85 or above to limit visible degradation.
  • JPF can store transparency (alpha channel); JPG cannot - any transparent areas will be filled with white or dropped silently.
  • Not every app implements all JPEG 2000 Part 2 extensions - if one program fails to open your file, try another such as XnView MP or Adobe Photoshop.

Frequently asked questions

Can I open a JPF file on Windows without installing anything?
Not reliably - Windows has no built-in JPEG 2000 codec, so Photos and Paint cannot open .jpf files. IrfanView with the free PlugIns pack is the quickest fix.
What is the difference between .jpf and .jp2?
Both are JPEG 2000 containers. .jp2 is Part 1 (the core standard); .jpf is Part 2 (JPX) and adds optional features such as extra colour spaces and compositing layers.
Why does Safari open my JPF but Chrome does not?
Safari includes a JPEG 2000 decoder; Chrome, Firefox, and Edge do not support JPEG 2000 at all, which is the main reason to convert to JPG for web use.
Will the converted JPG look identical to the original?
At JPG quality 85 or above the difference is hard to spot in photographs, but converting from a lossless JPEG 2000 source always introduces some data loss.
