How to convert JPF to PNG
- Add your .JPF file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .PNG in a few seconds.
- Download your new .PNG file.
What to expect
- PNG is lossless - the conversion itself adds no degradation, but if the source
.jpfused lossy JPEG 2000 compression, those artifacts are already present and carry over unchanged. - Output PNG files are almost always larger than the source JPF because JPEG 2000 achieves very high compression ratios that PNG cannot match.
- IrfanView requires the separate PlugIns package from irfanview.com to decode
.jpffiles - installing the base program alone is not enough.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPF to PNG reduce quality?
Not on its own - PNG is lossless. If the source used lossless JPEG 2000 compression the result is pixel-perfect; if it used lossy compression, those artifacts existed in the source and are preserved as-is.
Why won't my .jpf open in some programs?
JPF is JPEG 2000 Part 2 (JPX), which includes optional extensions that not every decoder implements. If one tool fails, try GIMP or Adobe Photoshop, which use more complete OpenJPEG builds.
Can I batch-convert many JPF files at once?
Yes - ImageMagick handles it with
magick mogrify -format png *.jpf, and GIMP's Script-Fu console or XnView MP's batch converter (Tools > Batch Convert) are GUI alternatives. Is transparency preserved when converting JPF to PNG?
Yes - both JPF and PNG support an alpha channel, so any transparency in the source file transfers intact to the PNG.
