How to convert IGS to DXF
- Add your .IGS file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .DXF in a few seconds.
- Download your new .DXF file.
What to expect
- DXF receives a 2D projected outline of the 3D model - the original surfaces are not preserved in the output.
- IGES files often have small surface gaps; these can cause broken or missing outlines in the DXF. Use FreeCAD's Part > Check Geometry to repair the model before exporting.
- For a full 3D transfer into AutoCAD, convert to
.stepinstead - AutoCAD can import STEP as a 3D solid body.
Frequently asked questions
Will the DXF contain the full 3D model?
No - the DXF holds a 2D projection or outline of the 3D part. For the complete 3D geometry, convert to
.step instead. Can I convert IGS to DXF for free?
Yes. Use the free converter above, or download FreeCAD (free and open-source) for offline work on Windows, macOS, or Linux.
Why does my exported DXF have missing or broken lines?
IGES surface gaps produce broken outlines in the projected view. Heal the surfaces in FreeCAD using Part > Check Geometry before exporting.
Can I get a top or side view instead of the front view?
Our converter exports a default projection; for a specific view, use FreeCAD's TechDraw workbench to choose the orientation before exporting.
