Why convert GIF to MP4?
GIF is an extremely inefficient format for animation. A few seconds of animation saved as GIF can be 10-20 times larger than the same clip as MP4 (H.264). Social platforms already silently convert GIFs to MP4 themselves; converting directly saves bandwidth, storage, and load time for anyone sharing or embedding the animation.

- Transparency is lost. GIF supports a single transparent color; MP4/H.264 has no transparency channel. Transparent backgrounds become solid in the output.
- The loop does not carry over automatically. MP4 has no native loop flag; looping must be set by the player or the HTML embed (
<video loop>). - File size reduction is typically 80-95% compared to the source GIF, with no visible quality difference at normal viewing sizes.
