Why convert ECW to JPG?
ECW files require a specific codec to open and cannot be shared with standard image editors, web platforms, or document workflows. Converting to .jpg makes the imagery accessible to anyone - for reports, email, or embedding - without GIS software on the recipient's end.

- Georeferencing is lost: ECW embeds projection and coordinate data (EPSG code, cell size, origin) that JPEG has no field for - convert to GeoTIFF instead if coordinates must be preserved.
- ECW is already a lossy format (roughly 15:1 compression); adding JPEG compression introduces a second generation of loss and further degrades image quality.
- Very large ECW files can produce enormous JPEGs - consider downsampling if you only need a preview or thumbnail.
