- Georeferencing is lost: ECW embeds projection and coordinate data (EPSG code, cell size, origin) that JPEG has no field for - convert to GeoTIFF instead if coordinates must be preserved.
- ECW is already a lossy format (roughly 15:1 compression); adding JPEG compression introduces a second generation of loss and further degrades image quality.
- Very large ECW files can produce enormous JPEGs - consider downsampling if you only need a preview or thumbnail.
