Wat is het AFPUB-bestandsformaat?
Een .afpub-bestand is het systeemeigen documentformaat van Affinity Publisher, de desktoppublishing-app die door Serif is gebouwd als alternatief voor Adobe InDesign. Serif bracht Affinity Publisher voor het eerst uit in juni 2019, en Canva nam het bedrijf over in 2024.
Een enkel .afpub-bestand bevat een volledige publicatie. Dat omvat pagina- en spread-geometrie, stramienpagina's, lagen, tekstkaders en hun stijlen, tabellen, vectorvormen en rasterafbeeldingen die ofwel in het bestand zijn ingesloten of vanaf de schijf zijn gekoppeld. Affinity slaat ook de status van het document op, zodat het heropenen van een bestand de lay-out precies herstelt zoals deze was achtergelaten. Ontwerpers gebruiken .afpub-bestanden voor brochures, tijdschriften, boeken, flyers en posters.
Het formaat is bedrijfseigen. Serif heeft de specificatie nooit gepubliceerd, daarom kan geen enkel betrouwbaar programma van derden .afpub rechtstreeks lezen.

RISICO: LOWAn .afpub file is a document, not an executable, so it carries little inherent risk. It can contain embedded images but no macros or scripts that run on open. As always, only open files from sources you trust, since large embedded assets can make files very big.

Hoe open ik een .afpub-bestand?
Open het in Affinity Publisher 2 op Windows, macOS of iPad, of in de gratis uniforme Affinity by Canva-app. Er is geen betrouwbare viewer van derden omdat het formaat bedrijfseigen is.
Kan ik een .afpub-bestand openen zonder Affinity?
Niet op een betrouwbare manier. Serif heeft de formaatspecificatie nooit gepubliceerd, dus andere apps kunnen het niet lezen. Als u geen Affinity hebt, vraag de afzender dan om het document in plaats daarvan naar PDF te exporteren.
Hoe converteer ik een .afpub-bestand naar PDF?
Open het bestand in Affinity Publisher, kies Bestand > Exporteren, kies een PDF-voorinstelling (inclusief PDF/X-opties voor drukwerk) en sla het op. Dit is de aanbevolen manier om de lay-out te delen.
Kan ik een .afpub-bestand bewerken in Adobe InDesign?
Nee. InDesign kan geen .afpub-bestanden openen. Affinity kan InDesign IDML importeren, maar exporteert geen IDML, dus in de andere richting bewegen betekent meestal het opnieuw opbouwen vanaf een PDF of het gebruik van een betaalde conversietool.
Is .afpub hetzelfde als het nieuwe .af-formaat?
Nee. .afpub is het klassieke Affinity Publisher-documentformaat. In oktober 2025 introduceerde Canva een uniform .af-formaat voor de nieuwe alles-in-één app. De nieuwe app kan .afpub openen, maar .af-bestanden kunnen niet worden geopend in de oudere versie 2-apps.
Waarom is mijn .afpub-bestand zo groot?
Affinity kan afbeeldingen met volledige resolutie rechtstreeks in het document insluiten. Als u afbeeldingen hebt ingesloten in plaats van gekoppeld, groeit het bestand met elk item. Door afbeeldingen te koppelen blijft de .afpub kleiner.
