Why convert VHDX to ISO?
VHDX (introduced with Windows 8 and Server 2012) is a binary virtual hard-disk container holding a partition table, filesystems, and a live OS installation up to 64 TB with corruption-resistant logging. An ISO is a sector-by-sector image of an optical disc using ISO 9660 or UDF, with no partition table and entirely different internal metadata; there is nothing in one format that maps to the other.
How to convert VHDX to ISO
Windows Disk Management FREE
In Windows Disk Management choose Action > Attach VHD and select the .vhdx to mount it as a drive letter; browse or copy files directly without any conversion needed.
qemu-img OPEN-SOURCE
If you need to run the VM under VMware or VirtualBox, run qemu-img convert -O vmdk in.vhdx out.vmdk or qemu-img convert -O vdi in.vhdx out.vdi instead.

- Sites advertising a VHDX-to-ISO converter do not perform a meaningful conversion; the internal structures of the two formats are incompatible.
- A bootable ISO must be built from OS installation source files; a VHDX holds a live installed instance, not installer media.
- To obtain an ISO of the Windows version in your VHDX, download it from Microsoft using the Media Creation Tool.
