How to convert RTF to HTML
- Add your .RTF file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .HTML in a few seconds.
- Download your new .HTML file.
What to expect
- Word's default HTML export adds heavy proprietary markup; always choose Web Page, Filtered for cleaner output.
- Embedded images are saved as separate files next to the
.html- move the HTML and its image folder together or images will not display. - Page-layout details such as margins, columns, and precise font metrics have no direct HTML equivalent and are dropped or approximated.
Frequently asked questions
Does LibreOffice or Word produce cleaner HTML from RTF?
Both are comparable for typical documents. LibreOffice output is more compact; Word's "Web Page, Filtered" option is similarly lean and suitable for most uses.
Will the exported HTML work directly in a CMS?
The exported file is a complete page with
<html> and <head> wrappers, which a CMS usually does not want - paste the document text into the CMS rich-text editor instead, or extract only the <body> content from the HTML file. Why are images missing after I open the HTML file?
The word processor saves images as separate files in a folder alongside the
.html file; moving only the HTML breaks those references, so keep the HTML and its companion folder together. Can I convert many RTF files at once?
Yes - LibreOffice headless handles batch conversion from the command line, processing every
.rtf in the current folder with a single command.Programs that convert RTF: Calibre · PolyEdit · Scientific WorkPlace · Tomahawk Gold · RightNote · TreeDBNotes · TRichView · ABC Amber Text Converter
