Why convert ROFL to MP4?
A ROFL file (League of Legends Replay) begins with a 'RIOT' signature, followed by a JSON match-statistics block and a proprietary game-event stream - no frames are stored. MP4 (ISO Base Media File Format container, standardized 2003) holds compressed video and audio. Because ROFL contains no pixel data, there is nothing to transcode into .mp4.
How to convert ROFL to MP4
OBS Studio FREE
Play the .rofl file in the League of Legends client and record the game window with OBS Studio; OBS outputs MP4 directly.
NVIDIA ShadowPlay FREE
On systems with an NVIDIA GPU, use ShadowPlay (GeForce Experience) to record the replay window; output is MP4.
Windows Game Bar FREE
Press Win+G while the replay plays in the League client and click Record; clips are saved as MP4 to Videos > Captures.

- ROFL replays are version-locked to the patch they were recorded on; after a League update, old files stop working and cannot be recorded.
- A 30-minute ROFL file is a few megabytes; the same match as a 1080p MP4 would be several gigabytes.
- Sites claiming direct ROFL-to-MP4 conversion do not work and some bundle adware targeting players searching for replay tools.
