How to convert ODT to HTML

  1. Add your .ODT file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
  2. Convert it to .HTML in a few seconds.
  3. Download your new .HTML file.

What to expect

  • Images embedded in the ODT are saved as separate files in a subfolder next to the HTML - moving the HTML alone will break them.
  • LibreOffice's HTML output uses verbose inline styles and many <span> elements; Pandoc produces leaner, more semantic markup.
  • This is a one-way export - there is no reliable reverse conversion from HTML back to ODT, so keep your original .odt file.

Frequently asked questions

Does LibreOffice produce clean HTML?
No - it generates inline CSS and span-heavy markup that works in a browser but is hard to edit by hand. Use Pandoc if you need cleaner output.
Will my tables survive the conversion?
Basic tables with rows and columns convert to standard HTML <table> elements, and merged cells usually survive. Heavy cell-border formatting may be approximated or dropped.
Why is the HTML file larger than the ODT?
ODT stores content compressed inside a ZIP archive; the exported HTML is uncompressed plain text, so file size grows even though the content is the same.
Can I convert without installing software?
Yes - use the free converter at the top of this page; your file is deleted after the conversion is done.
