How to convert MPG to TRP
- Add your .MPG file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .TRP in a few seconds.
- Download your new .TRP file.
What to expect
- MPG and TRP share the MPEG-2 codec family, so when the streams are compatible the conversion can be a low-loss remux rather than a full re-encode.
- If the source must be re-encoded to fit the transport stream, that pass is lossy and detail can soften.
- Program-stream structures such as some navigation or chapter data do not map onto the transport-stream format and are dropped.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting MPG to TRP keep the original quality?
TRP is an MPEG-2 transport stream, the same MPEG-2 family as many MPG files. When the video codec is compatible it can be repackaged with little or no quality loss; if it must be re-encoded, expect a small generation-loss drop.
Why convert MPG to TRP?
TRP is the recording format used by many HD set-top boxes and PVRs (Topfield, Humax, Samsung and similar). You would convert to TRP mainly to load a clip back onto a device or player that expects that transport-stream layout.
What opens a TRP file after conversion?
The free VLC media player opens TRP on Windows, macOS and Linux with no extra codecs, and the set-top boxes and PVRs that use the format play it directly.
What is the difference between MPG and TRP?
MPG is an MPEG program stream, designed for file storage and discs; TRP is an MPEG-2 transport stream, designed for broadcast and recording with fixed-size packets that tolerate stream errors.
