How to convert MP4 to XVID

  1. Add your .MP4 file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
  2. Convert it to .XVID in a few seconds.
  3. Download your new .XVID file.

What to expect

  • The video is re-encoded from H.264/H.265 to the older MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid) codec - this is a lossy step, and Xvid is less efficient, so quality-for-size is worse than the source.
  • Subtitle tracks and chapter markers from the MP4 are not preserved in the AVI-based Xvid output.
  • Choose this mainly for legacy DivX-certified players; modern phones, browsers and TVs already handle the original MP4.

Frequently asked questions

Will the picture look the same after converting `MP4` to `XVID`?
Not quite. MP4 video is usually H.264 or H.265, while XVID uses the older MPEG-4 Part 2 (ASP) codec, so the video is fully re-encoded. Expect either a larger file for the same visual quality or some quality loss if you keep the size down.
Why convert an MP4 to XVID?
The main reason is compatibility with older hardware - many DivX-certified DVD players, set-top boxes and older media devices read Xvid/AVI but choke on modern H.264/H.265 MP4 files.
Where will the resulting XVID file open?
The .xvid file is functionally an AVI and opens in VLC on Windows, macOS and Linux without extra codecs. It also plays on the legacy DivX-certified players it is usually made for.
Is anything lost besides video quality?
Yes. MP4 can hold subtitle tracks and chapters, but the AVI-based Xvid container does not carry these over, so embedded soft subtitles and chapter marks are dropped. Only the video and audio survive.
