Why convert IFO to MP4?
An IFO file is a DVD navigation map - it holds menus, chapter points, and audio/subtitle track locations but contains no video. The actual video lives in .vob files in the same VIDEO_TS folder. Converting the whole folder to .mp4 produces a single file that plays on phones, tablets, and media players without DVD software, and takes up less space than the raw VOBs.
How to convert IFO to MP4
HandBrake OPEN-SOURCE
Click Open Source, select the VIDEO_TS folder, choose an MP4 preset, and click Start Encode. HandBrake reads the IFO to detect titles and preserves chapter markers in the output .mp4 by default.
DVD Ripper+Video Converter Ultimate APP
Add the VIDEO_TS folder as the source, choose MP4 as the output format, and start the conversion.
Wondershare DVD Ripper for Mac APP
Load the VIDEO_TS folder, select MP4 as the output profile, and export.
Nero Recode APP
Open the DVD folder in Nero Recode, choose MP4 as the target format, and recode.

- The IFO contains no video - it is read only to map titles and chapters; the actual video is pulled from the
.vobfiles in the same folder. - The VOB video is MPEG-2; re-encoding to H.264 gives better device compatibility than copying streams directly.
- Chapter markers from the IFO are preserved in the output
.mp4by default in HandBrake.
