DWFx stores a display-optimised representation of a drawing, not the parametric, layer-aware CAD data that DWG requires. The only reliable path to a working DWG is to request the original file from the author. AutoCAD can attach a DWFx as a non-editable underlay if you need to re-draw geometry on top of it.

When a design is published from AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor to DWFx, the editable model is deliberately stripped. .dwg requires parametric geometry, block definitions, dimension objects, and attribute tables - none of which are stored in a DWFx.
