Why convert AMR to MID?
AMR (Adaptive Multi-Rate) encodes a continuous audio waveform at 8 kHz (AMR-NB) as ACELP frames, adopted by 3GPP in 1999. A .MID file contains no audio at all - only timestamped note-on/note-off events and instrument assignments that a synthesizer reads. Human speech has no discrete musical pitches that map to MIDI note numbers, making the conversion technically unsolvable.
How to convert AMR to MID
WavePad APP
Open the .amr in WavePad and export it as MP3 or WAV - a practical alternative if your goal is playing the audio in a wider range of apps rather than obtaining MIDI.

About these formats
An AMR file is a compressed speech recording in the Adaptive Multi-Rate format, the voice codec used in GSM and 3G phones. Open it with VLC media player (free, all platforms). To use it in…

- Pitch-detection tools that extract melody from clean monophonic instrument recordings cannot handle speech, which lacks discrete musical pitches.
- AMR is a legacy speech codec designed for GSM and 3G phone calls; convert to MP3 or WAV with WavePad for broader playback compatibility.
- File-extension databases sometimes list AMR-to-MIDI based on user search queries rather than technical feasibility - the conversion does not exist.
