Why convert 002 to 7Z?
Split sets require every numbered part to be present and kept together - losing one part breaks the whole set. Converting to a single .7z archive replaces the chain of numbered files with one portable file. The 7Z format uses LZMA2 compression, which can produce a smaller file than the original uncompressed split set.
How to convert 002 to 7Z
7-Zip OPEN-SOURCE
Right-click the .001 > 7-Zip > Extract Here to join the parts, then select the extracted output > right-click > 7-Zip > Add to archive, set format to 7z, and click OK.
PeaZip OPEN-SOURCE
Open the .001 with all parts in the same folder; PeaZip reassembles and extracts automatically, then right-click the output > PeaZip > Add to archive and choose .7z.

- The
.002has no header of its own - the archive header sits in the.001, which is always the required entry point. - If any numbered part is missing, extraction fails at the point where the missing bytes would appear; the complete set is required.
- For a raw uncompressed split file (no archive inside), join the parts first using 7-Zip's extraction or by concatenating them, then compress the result.
Frequently asked questions
Can I open the .002 directly in 7-Zip?
.002 contains raw continuation bytes with no header; 7-Zip requires the .001 as the entry point.
