Why convert XMP to XML?
XMP (Extensible Metadata Platform), introduced by Adobe in 2001 and standardized as ISO 16684-1, stores metadata as an RDF/XML document - the same plain-text, tag-based format as .xml. Tools that accept only .xml by file extension will process the renamed file without any data loss.
How to convert XMP to XML
File Explorer FREE
Enable file name extensions via View > Show, then right-click the .xmp file, choose Rename, and change the extension to .xml.
Terminal FREE

PowerShell FREE

- No data is lost -
.xmpand.xmldiffer only in extension; the file content is unchanged. - Standard XML parsers handle the RDF namespace prefixes (
rdf:,xmp:,dc:) without issue, though some editors may flag them as unrecognized. - After renaming, any XMP-aware application will still parse the metadata correctly even with the
.xmlextension.
