Why convert WLMP to MP4?
A WLMP file is an XML project file that stores only a list of editing decisions pointing to source clips on disk; it contains no video frames of its own. .mp4 is the standard format for sharing, uploading, and playing back video on phones, TVs, and online platforms - a .wlmp plays nowhere except inside Windows Movie Maker.
How to convert WLMP to MP4
Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker FREE
Open the .wlmp via File > Open Project, confirm all source media loads correctly on the timeline, click Save movie, choose a quality preset such as 'Recommended for this project', and save the MP4.
Xbox Game Bar (screen record) APP
If source media is partially missing, play the project in Movie Maker at full screen and press Win+G to record with Xbox Game Bar; quality is lower than a proper export but works as a last resort.

- The .wlmp file contains no audio or video streams - it is a plain-text XML file; all footage must exist as separate source files at their original disk locations.
- Windows Movie Maker was discontinued on 10 January 2017 and the official download was removed; avoid unofficial sites that appeared after EOL, many of which bundle adware or malware.
- Third-party video converters do not apply here because there is no video inside the .wlmp file to convert.
