How to convert RTF to DOTX
- Add your .RTF file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .DOTX in a few seconds.
- Download your new .DOTX file.
What to expect
- RTF's simple formatting (bold, italic, fonts, colors, basic tables) maps into the modern XML template; there is no richer content in the source to preserve or lose.
- The result is a template: opening it starts a new document based on the styles and boilerplate, not an edit of the template itself.
.dotxis always macro-free; nothing executable is added during conversion.
Frequently asked questions
How faithful is the DOTX to my original RTF?
The text and the basic formatting RTF holds - bold, italic, fonts, colors, and simple tables - transfer accurately into the
.dotx. Since RTF stores nothing more elaborate, there is no higher-fidelity content that could be lost. Why turn an RTF into a DOTX template?
.dotx is the modern Word template format, so converting makes your RTF's content and styling into a reusable base: opening the template creates a new document from it instead of editing it. This suits turning a document into boilerplate for repeated use. What can open a DOTX file?
.dotx is the ZIP-based Office Open XML template, readable in Microsoft Word 2007 and later, LibreOffice Writer, Word for the web, and Google Docs. It is broadly supported across current office software. Is the DOTX safe from macros after conversion?
Yes. A plain
.dotx is macro-free by definition, and RTF carries no macros either, so the conversion cannot introduce VBA. For macro-enabled templates Word uses the separate .dotm type instead.Programs that convert RTF: Microsoft Word · AbiWord · TextMaker · Word Mobile · Apache OpenOffice Writer (OpenOffice.org Writer) · LibreOffice Writer
