How to convert RAW to HDR

  1. Add your .RAW file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
  2. Convert it to .HDR in a few seconds.
  3. Download your new .HDR file.

What to expect

  • The raw is demosaiced into the RGBE high-dynamic-range encoding; more tonal range is retained than in 8-bit formats.
  • HDR must be tone-mapped before it displays correctly as a normal image.
  • Support is limited to imaging and 3D tools rather than general viewers.

Frequently asked questions

Does RAW-to-HDR keep the wide tonal range?
Radiance HDR stores high dynamic range, so it can retain more of the raw sensor's bright-to-dark range than an 8-bit format like JPEG or PNG. The raw is still demosaiced and developed in the process.
Why convert RAW to HDR?
HDR is used in rendering, compositing, and lighting workflows where a wide dynamic range matters. Converting a raw into Radiance HDR fits it into those high-dynamic-range pipelines.
Where does an HDR file open?
GIMP, Blender, Krita, and Photopea open Radiance HDR. To share it as an ordinary picture, it must be tone-mapped first - a plain rename to JPG will not work.
Can I view an HDR like a normal photo?
Not directly in most everyday viewers. HDR holds more brightness range than a standard display shows, so it needs tone-mapping down to an 8-bit format for normal viewing.
