RAFwill not appear in the outputPNG. - Fujifilm X-Trans sensors use a non-standard 6×6 colour filter array; generic converters may produce smeared fine detail. RawTherapee and darktable both include dedicated X-Trans demosaicing modes.
- A 16-bit
PNGfrom a high-megapixelRAFcan exceed 100 MB. Use 8-bit if file size matters, or choose JPEG for sharing and web use.
Frequently asked questions
Will the PNG look the same as the JPEG that came off the camera?
Not exactly. The in-camera JPEG applies Fujifilm's film simulation and sharpening; in RawTherapee or darktable you can match that look or create your own.
Does converting RAF to PNG lose image quality?
PNG is lossless, so the exported pixels match exactly what the raw processor produces. You do lose the raw file's editing latitude - white balance and highlight recovery are no longer possible after export.
Can I batch convert a folder of RAF files to PNG?
Yes. RawTherapee's queue and XnView MP's batch converter both handle folders of
RAF files in a single run.Why is my converted PNG so large?
A 16-bit
PNG from a 26-megapixel camera can easily exceed 100 MB. Switch to 8-bit output in your raw processor if you only need standard viewing quality.
