Why convert PCD to TIF?
PCD is a dead format - Kodak discontinued the Photo CD system and no modern 64-bit application reads .pcd reliably. .tif is lossless and universally supported, making it the standard archiving format for scanned film. Converting once to TIFF preserves the full scan quality with no compression loss.
How to convert PCD to TIF
ImageMagick OPEN-SOURCE
Run magick img.pcd[4] output.tif in a terminal - index [4] selects the 2048x3072 resolution layer. Use [5] for Pro Photo CD discs that include a 4096x6144 layer.
XnView FREE
Use the 32-bit Classic build; set resolution in Tools > Options > Read > PhotoCD to 16 Base (2048x3072), open the .pcd, and save as TIFF via File > Save As.
IrfanView FREE
Install IrfanView and its PlugIns pack (which includes PHOTOCD.DLL), open the .pcd, and save as TIFF via File > Save As.
