Why convert PACKAGE to DDS?
A .package file is a DBPF binary archive that stores game resources including textures in .dds format internally. Custom content creators extract DDS textures to edit them in an image editor, then reimport the modified texture to retexture clothing, furniture, or other in-game objects.

- DDS textures in Sims 4 packages commonly use BC1 (DXT1) or BC3 (DXT5) compression; your image editor needs a DDS plugin that supports these formats.
- Sims 3 and Sims 4 use different DBPF versions and different texture resource type IDs - use s3pe for Sims 3 packages, not s4pe or Sims 4 Studio.
- You cannot edit the texture in place; export it as
.dds, edit externally, then reimport into the.packageusing the same tool.
