Why convert ODG to DXF?
.dxf is AutoCAD's open interchange format, recognized by CAD software such as AutoCAD and DraftSight. ODG files are not recognized by CAD tools, so a DXF export is the standard way to hand off a drawing to someone working in a CAD environment.
How to convert ODG to DXF
LibreOffice Draw FREE
Open the .odg, go to File > Export, select AutoCAD Drawing Interchange Format (DXF), choose DXF R12 for broadest compatibility or R2000+ for modern tools, and save.
Apache OpenOffice Draw FREE
Use File > Export and select DXF; steps are identical to LibreOffice Draw, though LibreOffice is the more actively maintained option.

- Straight lines, rectangles, polygons and basic fills export cleanly; Bezier curves are approximated as polylines and may look rough in the DXF.
- Text boxes usually transfer but font substitution is common and placement can shift; convert text to outlines in LibreOffice before exporting if exact typography matters.
- Embedded raster images in the ODG will not appear in DXF R12; layers do export as DXF layers.
