Why convert NRG to MDF?
MDF is the proprietary disc image format of Alcohol 120%, a virtual drive and disc-authoring program. The only scenario where NRG-to-MDF makes sense is if your workflow uses Alcohol 120% and you want to keep disc images in a consistent format. There is no quality difference - both NRG and MDF are sector-level disc images.
How to convert NRG to MDF
PowerISO APP
Go to Tools > Convert, set the .nrg as source and output format to MDF/MDS, choose a destination folder, and click OK - PowerISO writes both the .mdf and .mds files.

- MDF always comes paired with a
.mdsmetadata file - Alcohol 120% needs both to mount the image correctly; keep them in the same folder. - CD audio tracks may not survive the conversion; for audio-CD images, use BIN/CUE instead.
- MDF is also a proprietary legacy format; for long-term archival, ISO is the safer and more broadly supported choice.
