Why convert NEF to MRW?
NEF is Nikon's proprietary raw format encoding Bayer pattern data, sensor calibration, and color matrices specific to Nikon hardware. MRW is Minolta's legacy raw format from the DiMAGE camera line, discontinued after Minolta exited the camera business in 2006. There is no shared data model between the two; any tool claiming this conversion is at best extracting the embedded JPEG preview from the NEF, not producing genuine Minolta raw sensor data - use .dng as the recommended open archiving alternative.
