How to convert MKV to TRP
- Add your .MKV file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .TRP in a few seconds.
- Download your new .TRP file.
What to expect
- TRP is a set-top-box/PVR transport stream; an incompatible source codec causes a lossy re-encode.
- Subtitles, chapters and additional audio tracks from the MKV are typically lost.
- Playback is mainly through PVR hardware and VLC; convert to MP4 for phones or editing.
Frequently asked questions
Does MKV to TRP change the video quality?
TRP is an MPEG-2 transport stream that can carry MPEG-2 or H.264 HD video. If the MKV video is already a compatible H.264 stream it can stay close to the original; otherwise it is re-encoded, which is lossy.
Why convert MKV to TRP?
To match the recording format used by TV set-top boxes and PVRs (Topfield, Humax, Samsung and similar), for example to load footage back onto such a device.
What opens a TRP file?
VLC media player opens TRP on Windows, macOS and Linux with no extra codecs. Support outside PVR/set-top hardware and VLC is limited, so MP4 is better for phones and editing.
What does not survive the conversion?
As a single-program transport stream, TRP does not retain MKV's text subtitles, chapters or extra audio tracks in general.
