Why convert LRV to MP4?
An LRV (Low Resolution Video) is a proxy clip recorded by GoPro and DJI cameras alongside every full-resolution .mp4. Internally it is H.264 video with AAC audio in an ISO Base Media container - identical to a standard MP4. The .lrv extension simply prevents most players and editors from recognizing the file.
How to convert LRV to MP4
FFmpeg FREE
Run ffmpeg -i input.lrv -c copy output.mp4 to stream-copy the file into an .mp4 with no re-encoding and no quality loss.
HandBrake FREE
Drag the .lrv onto HandBrake, choose an MP4 preset, and click Start Encode; HandBrake re-encodes, so use FFmpeg stream-copy if quality is the priority.
VLC FREE
Open the .lrv directly via Media > Open File to play it, or use Media > Convert/Save to save a copy as .mp4.

- LRV is already an MP4 internally - renaming only changes the label the OS sees; no encoding or quality change occurs.
- The LRV is a low-resolution proxy (typically 240p-480p); the full-quality footage is in the matching
.MP4on the camera card. - Use a different filename than the matching high-res
.MP4when renaming to avoid accidental overwrites.
