Why convert INDD to QXP?
Some studios and publishers run QuarkXPress workflows and receive InDesign files from outside agencies. Converting to .qxp lets editors continue working in their native application. No direct INDD-to-QXP path exists; every method passes through IDML at some point.
How to convert INDD to QXP
QuarkXPress APP
Export the .indd to IDML in InDesign (File > Save As > InDesign Markup), then in QuarkXPress go to File > Import, select the IDML file, and save the result as a .qxp project.
QuarkXPress for Mac APP
Export the .indd to IDML in InDesign, then in QuarkXPress for Mac go to File > Import, select the IDML file, review the imported layout, and save as a .qxp project.

- No direct INDD-to-QXP conversion exists; QuarkXPress reads IDML, not the raw binary
.indd, so every method goes through IDML. - Layout fidelity is approximate: complex text wraps, blending modes, and InDesign-specific effects often require manual correction after import.
- Ensure all linked images and fonts are available before converting; QuarkXPress will report missing links and substitute fonts otherwise.
