How to convert HTML to RTF
- Add your .HTML file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .RTF in a few seconds.
- Download your new .RTF file.
What to expect
- Basic formatting - headings, bold, italic, lists, and hyperlinks - transfers reliably; CSS layouts, multi-column designs, and background colors do not carry over to
.rtf. - Images embedded as Base64 data in the
.htmlfile may survive conversion; images referenced as external file paths are usually missing in the output. - RTF has been largely superseded by
.docxfor modern documents; if compatibility with very old software is not a concern, saving as.docxoften preserves more formatting.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert HTML to RTF without Microsoft Word?
Yes - LibreOffice Writer is free and produces comparable results via File > Save As > RTF.
Will images from my HTML file appear in the RTF?
Only images embedded as Base64 data in the
.html file are likely to transfer; images referenced as external file paths are usually missing in the output. Why does the formatting look wrong after conversion?
HTML layouts depend on CSS, which has no equivalent in RTF; multi-column layouts, custom margins, and background colors are dropped, leaving only basic typographic formatting.
Is RTF still a good format to use?
RTF is widely supported but dated -
.docx is a better choice for most purposes today unless you need a format that very old or niche software can reliably open.Programs that convert HTML: Microsoft Word · ABC Amber Text Converter · PolyEdit · Tomahawk Gold · Total HTML Converter · Microsoft Access · RightNote · TreeDBNotes
