Why convert GPG to ZIP?
A .gpg file is binary OpenPGP ciphertext containing scrambled packets; a .zip is a container format built around a directory of compressed entries with its own header structure. There is no file tree or archive inside an encrypted .gpg file until decryption reveals the original content.
How to convert GPG to ZIP
GnuPG (decrypt to reveal contents) OPEN-SOURCE
Run gpg --output archive.zip --decrypt file.gpg to decrypt the file; if the original content was a ZIP, this returns it directly. You need the passphrase or private key - without it, the file cannot be accessed.
Gpg4win OPEN-SOURCE
Right-click the .gpg file and choose More GpgEX options > Decrypt and verify in Kleopatra; if the decrypted output is a ZIP, save it with a .zip extension.

- Renaming
.gpgto.zipdoes not work - the file starts with an OpenPGP packet header, not thePKZIP signature, so archive tools report a format error. - If the original plaintext was a ZIP, decrypting with GnuPG recovers it directly using
gpg --output archive.zip --decrypt file.gpg. - Without the passphrase or private key, no tool can access the contents - OpenPGP encryption cannot be bypassed.
