Convert FNMM to ZIP

QUICK ANSWER
Is it possible to convert FNMM to ZIP?
Yes - FNMM converts to ZIP.

Funky Maker: Mobile packs a mod's charts, audio and images into a single container built on the ZIP format. To get a .zip, copy the .fnmm, rename the copy's extension to .zip, and confirm it opens in 7-Zip; if you edited the contents, re-zip the folder instead.

Why convert FNMM to ZIP?

Turning a .fnmm into a .zip lets you browse, extract or share its contents with ordinary archive tools that do not recognize the .fnmm extension. Because the underlying container is already ZIP, the rename is usually lossless and instant. If you have loose mod files instead, you compress them back into a standard .zip.

How to convert FNMM to ZIP

7-Zip (open or re-create)

Right-click the .fnmm and pick 7-Zip > Open archive to verify it, or select an extracted mod folder and choose 7-Zip > Add to archive with format zip to build a fresh .zip.

zip command (macOS, Linux)

Copy then rename with cp mod.fnmm mod.zip, or repackage extracted files with zip -r mod.zip modfiles/ to produce a standard archive.

About these formats

Quality & what to watch

  • The rename trick works only if that .fnmm is genuinely a ZIP container; if an archive tool reports it as invalid, it uses a different layout.
  • Renaming does not change the data - it is the same bytes with a .zip label.
  • A .zip you rebuild will no longer be recognized by Funky Maker: Mobile unless you rename it back to .fnmm and keep the original internal structure.

Frequently asked questions

Is a .fnmm file just a ZIP?
In practice it is a ZIP-based container, which is why renaming a copy to .zip usually opens it directly.
Do I lose anything renaming .fnmm to .zip?
No. The bytes are identical; only the extension changes, so archive tools now recognize it.
Why copy before renaming?
Keeping the original .fnmm intact means the Funky Maker app can still load it if the rename doesn't behave as expected.
Can I convert the .zip back to .fnmm?
Renaming back can work if you preserved the exact internal files and structure the app expects.
