Why convert CRD to PDF?

Windows Cardfile .crd is a binary format from the 1980s-90s that shipped with Windows 1.0 through Windows 3.x and almost nothing modern opens. Printing to PDF via a legacy reader creates an archival copy readable on any device without needing CARDFILE.EXE or any other legacy software.

About these formats

Quality & what to watch

  • There is no direct CRD-to-PDF converter; the only route is to open the file in a Cardfile reader and print to PDF.
  • The 16-bit Windows 3.x build of CARDFILE.EXE does not run on 64-bit Windows 10/11; use the 32-bit Windows 95/NT build instead.
  • Embedded bitmap or OLE objects in older cards may not render in the PDF; plain text cards always print cleanly.
