.vro is a DVD-VR data file format used for storing video recordings on DVD. A .vro file contains the actual video and audio data captured by a standalone DVD recorder.
DVD-VR standard
DVD-VR is an extension of the DVD standard; where standard DVD-Video only supports playback, DVD-VR adds the ability to record, edit, and manage content directly on disc. A DVD-VR disc stores a single VR_MOVIE.VRO file inside the DVD_RTAV folder. All recordings made to the disc are combined into this one continuous file, rather than split across multiple separate files as in DVD-Video.
IFO support files
In addition to the .vro file, the disc also stores companion .IFO files - specifically VR_MANGR.IFO - which contain navigation data: the location of individual recordings, chapter marks, playlists, and timestamps. A backup copy of this navigation data is kept in VR_MANGR.BUP.
.vro is essentially an MPEG-2 Program Stream container - structurally identical to a .VOB file - that multiplexes video and audio into a single stream. The key difference is that a single VR_MOVIE.VRO holds all recordings for the entire disc rather than splitting them into multiple files. Audio tracks may use AC-3 (Dolby Digital), MPEG-1 Layer II, or LPCM encoding at 48 kHz. Because the underlying stream is standard MPEG-2, a .vro file can often be renamed to .mpg and played directly in most media players without conversion.

РИСК: LOWA VRO is inert MPEG-2 media, safe to play. The considerations are practical/legal: keep the companion VR_MANGR.IFO/.BUP if you want recording boundaries and chapters; broadcast recordings on DVD-RAM may be CPRM copy-protected, and bypassing that to copy/convert can be restricted by law in your country - home recordings are fine. Online VRO converters upload large personal videos to a third party; prefer a local tool (HandBrake/VLC/ffmpeg) for private recordings.
