Convert PAR to SLDPRT

Can you convert PAR to SLDPRT?
QUICK ANSWER
Is it possible to convert PAR to SLDPRT?
No - not a direct conversion.

The correct path is a STEP bridge: export the .par from Solid Edge to a .step file, then open that STEP in SolidWorks. You get the solid geometry but lose the parametric feature history, and the part arrives as a dumb solid.

Why convert PAR to SLDPRT?

A .par is a Solid Edge Part (Siemens) and a .sldprt is a SolidWorks Part (Dassault Systemes). Both use proprietary binary containers with vendor-specific feature trees. Even though both applications use the Parasolid geometry kernel, the file containers and feature trees are completely different, and no tool reads one and writes the other.

How to convert PAR to SLDPRT

Solid Edge APP

Open the .par in Solid Edge, use File > Save As > STEP to export a .step file, then open that .step in SolidWorks - this is the standard STEP bridge between the two formats.

CrossManager APP

Open the .par in CrossManager and export to STEP, then import the .step into SolidWorks.

About these formats

Quality & what to watch

  • The STEP bridge transfers the final 3D solid geometry only - the parametric feature history (sketches, extrusions, fillets) is not carried over.
  • The part arrives in SolidWorks as a dumb solid; if you need parametric editability, you must rebuild the feature tree manually.
  • No tool produces a .sldprt with an editable feature history from a .par - sites claiming direct conversion do not work as advertised.

Frequently asked questions

Is there any tool that converts PAR to SLDPRT directly?
No - the formats are proprietary and incompatible; tools claiming direct conversion do not work as advertised.
Will I lose data going through the STEP bridge?
You lose the parametric feature history. The STEP file carries the final solid geometry but not the sequence of sketches and operations used to build the part.
I don't have Solid Edge. Can I still get the geometry into SolidWorks?
If the supplier can provide a STEP export from the .par, you can open that STEP directly in SolidWorks without needing Solid Edge.
