Why convert PAR to DXF?
DXF is the standard 2D exchange format for manufacturing and laser cutting. When a Solid Edge sheet-metal part needs to go to a cutting service, or a 2D shop drawing needs to reach a contractor using AutoCAD, DXF carries the linework, holes, and flat geometry that 2D CAD tools and manufacturing machines expect directly.
How to convert PAR to DXF
Solid Edge EASIEST
Open the .par in Solid Edge; for a sheet-metal part activate the Flat Pattern environment, then use File > Save As > DXF. For a 2D drawing, open the companion .dft file and use File > Save As > DXF.
CrossManager APP
Open the .par in CrossManager and export to .dxf.

About these formats
A PAR file is a 3D CAD part file from Siemens Solid Edge - it holds a single mechanical part's geometry, feature tree, and metadata. To view it for free, use the official Solid Edge Viewer.…
Open .PAR details →A DXF file is a CAD drawing in Autodesk's Drawing Exchange Format, introduced in 1982 so drawings could move between AutoCAD and other programs. To view one free, upload it to Autodesk…
Open .DXF details →Quality & what to watch
- A DXF from a Solid Edge flat pattern contains the cut profile, bend lines, and holes as 2D entities - exactly what laser cutters and punch presses expect.
- 3D solid geometry has no meaningful place in DXF; if you need to exchange the 3D model, export to STEP or IGES instead.
- The DXF export drops the parametric feature history, material properties, and 3D solid data - it is a one-way export.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert a PAR file to DXF without Solid Edge?
.par files and export to DXF without a Solid Edge license; Solid Edge remains the native and most reliable option.
