Why convert PAR to IGES?
IGES is an older neutral CAD exchange format supported by many CAM, simulation, and legacy CAD tools that cannot read Solid Edge's native format. If a supplier or machine shop needs geometry but cannot accept STEP, IGES is often their requested fallback.

About these formats
A PAR file is a 3D CAD part file from Siemens Solid Edge - it holds a single mechanical part's geometry, feature tree, and metadata. To view it for free, use the official Solid Edge Viewer.…

- IGES carries geometry only - the Solid Edge parametric history (sketches, extrusions, fillets) is not written to the output file.
- Some IGES exports write surfaces rather than a solid B-rep; if the recipient reports geometry issues, check whether the export option is set to solid or surface.
- IGES is the older standard; STEP is more accurate and better supported by modern tools - use IGES only when specifically required.
