How to convert MPEG to TRP
- Add your .MPEG file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .TRP in a few seconds.
- Download your new .TRP file.
What to expect
- The picture is re-encoded into an MPEG-2 transport stream - a lossy step limited by the target bitrate.
- TRP is a PVR/set-top-box format, so the output may be rejected by phone and web players even though VLC handles it.
- Only audio and video carry over; program tables, chapters and metadata are usually lost, and packet overhead can enlarge the file.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting MPEG to TRP reduce quality?
TRP wraps video in an MPEG-2 transport stream, and the conversion re-encodes the picture, which is lossy. A high bitrate keeps it close to the MPEG source, but the output will not look better than the original.
Why convert MPEG to TRP?
TRP is the recording format used by many HD set-top boxes and PVRs (Topfield, Humax, Samsung and similar), so converting is useful when a device or workflow expects that transport-stream layout. For general use MP4 is more portable.
Where does a TRP file open?
VLC plays TRP on Windows, macOS and Linux without extra codecs, and compatible PVRs and set-top boxes read it. Phones and web players often will not, so it is not ideal for casual sharing.
What does not survive the conversion?
Only video and audio move into the transport stream; broadcast tables, chapters and descriptive metadata are typically dropped. Transport-stream packetisation also adds some overhead to the file size.
