What to expect

  • Both .lrf and .snb are discontinued formats - .lrf was Sony Reader's native format, while .snb is exclusive to the Shanda Bambook, a Chinese e-reader discontinued around 2011.
  • DRM-protected Sony books use the .lrx extension (not .lrf) and cannot be converted without first removing DRM, which may be restricted by law in your country.
  • Complex LRF layouts, non-standard fonts, and Sony-specific display properties do not carry over - simple prose novels convert cleanly, but heavily formatted books may look different on the Bambook.

Frequently asked questions

Is there any other online converter for LRF to SNB?
No mainstream online converter supports SNB output; the tool on this page is the exception. For offline conversion, Calibre is the only maintained option.
Will my book's formatting survive the conversion?
Text content and embedded images are preserved, but LRF's Sony-specific page layout is discarded and re-flowed into SNB format, so the visual presentation may differ.
Should I convert to SNB or EPUB?
Convert to SNB only if you need to read the book on a Shanda Bambook device; for any other reader or app, convert to .epub instead since it is universally supported.
Can I convert a DRM-protected LRF file?
Files with the .lrf extension are normally unencrypted; DRM-protected Sony store books use the .lrx extension and require DRM removal before Calibre can convert them.
