How to convert JPG to JPX
- Add your .JPG file - drop it in the box above or click to browse.
- Convert it to .JPX in a few seconds.
- Download your new .JPX file.
What to expect
- Quality is limited by the source JPG; the extended JPEG 2000 container does not recover lost detail.
- JPX support is narrow (mainly specialist viewers and Safari), making it a poor choice for wide sharing.
- Extended features like layers and compositing are not created by the conversion; a converted JPG remains a flat, single image.
Frequently asked questions
What is a JPX file?
JPX is a JPEG 2000 Part 2 (extended) image. It uses the same wavelet compression as
.jp2 but adds capabilities such as extra color spaces, multiple layers, and compositing.Does converting from JPG add any of those extra features?
No. A converted JPG is a single-layer image, so it does not automatically gain layers or additional color data. The JPX simply holds the same pixels in the extended container.
Where will a JPX file open?
In few programs: IrfanView (with its JPEG 2000 plugin) or XnView MP on Windows, and Safari among browsers. Most other software and browsers cannot display it.
Will the image look better as JPX?
No. The JPG's lossy compression is already applied, so the JPX preserves those pixels without restoring anything. A lossy JPX save would add a second compression step.
